On-line advertising overtakes TV H1 09

Between January and July 2009, on-line advertising spending in the UK exceeded television expenditure, according to a study by the Internet Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Tough economic times had led to a significant fall in TV advertising spending, which saw it being overtaken about a year earlier than most expected.

Japan-deflation for 6th month Aug 09

In Japan, the second largest economy in the world, consumer prices fell for the 6th month in a row, dropping by 2.4% in August, year on year.

The Bank of Japan is expected to extend its deflation forecast when it gives its next predictions in October 2009.

Working mums’ 5 year olds less fit Sep 09

An Institute of Child Health study of 12,500 five-year-olds found those with working mothers were less active and more likely to eat unhealthy food.

Professor Catherine Law, the leader of the study, said “Time constraints may limit parents’ capacity to provide their children with healthy foods and opportunities for physical activity.”

Children less active Sep 09

According to a survey of children (aged 8-15) by the British Heart Foundation, only 1 in 8 youngsters is getting the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity per day, while energy-dense snacks are adding to weight issues.

Dr Mike Knapton, director of prevention and care at the British Heart Foundation, said: “We have a generation of kids growing up who have a shockingly blase attitude towards exercise and being active. Young people need to switch off their square eyes and get in the habit of exercising now.”
