UK wires up for electric cars.

London, Milton Keynes and the North East are the first of the Plugged-In Places to be wired up for electric vehicle recharging grids this year. These 3 will build 2,500 charge points in the first year, and another 11,000 in the 3 following years, at a variety of publicly accessible hubs.

The West Midlands, Greater Manchester, South Yorkshire, Cumbria, Cornwall and Belfast missed out on the first round but are contenders for the second wave.

Milton Keynes is to build 2,430 recharge points, one per 100 people living in the city. 2,000 of these will be located in local residential centres. The first is scheduled for September 2010.
