Raw hippo for brain power?

Dr David R Braun has reported on a 4-year excavation of an ancient site in northen Keyna that dates back to just under 2 million years ago, a time at which an increase in brain size may have led to the development of modern humans.

Processing fossil teeth, the team was able to show that at that time the site was wet and marshy with lots of grass.

The finds include the remains of butchered turtle, fish, crocodile, antelope, small birds and hippopotamus. The team thinks these were eaten raw.

According to team member Prof Naomi Levin – “Anthropologists have posited that adding meat to their diet was key to the development of a larger brain.”
